Margaret Kalvar

Margaret Kalvar is Director of the Consumer Program at the Emerging Markets Investors Alliance. Ms. Kalvar is a financial analyst with over 30 years of experience performing investment analysis of consumer oriented equities. From 2004-2016, she was a Senior Partner and consumer analyst at Harding Loevner, an investment management firm with over $70 billion in assets under management that specializes in global equities. Her focus was initially on emerging market companies but subsequently broadened to the global universe. She maintained frequent contact with top management at the companies she followed, and travelled extensively for on-site meetings and plant visits.

From 1997-2003, Ms. Kalvar was Director of Research at William Sword and Co., an investment banking firm. She performed financial analysis for merger and acquisitions, identifying targets and modelling possible scenarios for a variety of clients including, though not exclusively, those in consumer sectors. Prior to that, she was an equity analyst at Merrill Lynch Asset Management and at Pittsburgh National Bank, where she began her career as an equity analyst in 1983. Consumer companies figured prominently in her coverage at both firms.

Ms. Kalvar earned her CFA in 1986. She received an MA in International Economics from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in 1980 and graduated from Wellesley College in 1978, Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude, with a major in Political Science. She is fluent in French.
